The Tramp. Circa 1895.
Original drawing of the famous character Filuzius (or Pater Filizius or Filicius), by Wilhelm Busch, a primarily anti-clerical illustrated satire from the late 19th century.
Ink on cardboard.
Signed "Filuzius," like all the drawings in this series.
Size: 29.4 x 24 cm.
Magnificent state of conservation.
The author's drawings and caricatures draw on a deep knowledge of German literature and art to satirize contemporary life, Catholicism, philistinism, religious morality, fanaticism, and the supposed moral elevation they represent.
