About the artist
Guy Vandenbranden (Brussels, 1926) is considered the leading Belgian constructivist.
Painter relevant to geometric abstraction, draftsman, engraver, and object creator. Studied at the free workshop L'Effort. Began in Brussels in 1950. Moved away from figuration around 1951 and developed a constructivist abstraction, very close to the works of P. Mondrian and V. Vasarely. Discovered assemblages, reliefs, and objects. Awarded the H. Jacquet Prize (1956, 1958), and the JPB Prize (1957).
Member of Taptoe, Abstract Art, Forms, Constructed Art, and De Nieuwe Vlaamse School (1960, The New Flemish School).
Also creates murals at the Strombeek municipal house (Grimbergen). Work at the West metro station in Brussels (1982). Works at the Museums of Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Ixelles, Liège (Walloon Art), Mechelen, Ostend (MPAM), and Verviers.
