Description from the seller
Old silver
Oil paint on linen
60 x 60 cm
2024
Framed (in black frame)
This oil painting depicts a silver teapot on an olive wood plank against a dark background. The realistic depiction and careful light reflections give the object an almost tangible presence. The work exudes tranquility and evokes a sense of nostalgia, like a warm memory of simplicity, homeliness, and bygone times.
A while ago, my mother-in-law offered me two old silver jugs. She was tidying up. Well, perfect models indeed. They sit well. I did my best to capture them in all their old glory. Of course, I will include the little dents and scratches. Honestly, that's only fair.
I am Melinda Rutgers, a painter. I completed my training as a portrait painter at Portretschool Amsterdam. Currently, my focus is on painting still lifes. I paint realistically in oil and am inspired by everyday moments and objects that often go unnoticed. I am fascinated by different materials and textures, and in my work, I explore how light, texture, and detail can together evoke a mood; a quest to find the boundary between seeing and feeling.
Since 2024, I have been part of the 'Masters of Realism' group. A proud recognition of my craftsmanship and contribution to the tradition of Dutch Realism.
