Description from the seller
David Bles (1821–1899) – Interior with figures – original drawing/watercolor
Beautiful and rare original drawing/watercolor by the Hague master David Bles, executed in pencil and watercolor. The work depicts a lively historical interior with multiple figures, detailed with great attention to detail, atmosphere, and character, characteristic of Bles's narrative style.
This drawing is directly related to the well-known oil painting 'Oranje Nassau Royalists' (1871), of which the finished painted version is part of the Dauwes Fine Art collection. The work offered here can be considered an important preparatory study / autonomous variant, in which clearly different techniques have been combined.
