Nymphenburg - Figurine - Porcelain

The creator of this figurine, Franz Anton Bustelli (1723-1763), was a Swiss-born modeller who worked for the Nymphenburg porcelain manufactory from 1754 until his death. He is widely regarded as the greatest porcelain modeller of the Rococo style and created approximately 150 figurines. Due to the strong sculptural and three-dimensional qualities of his art, many 18th-century figurines remained white, without color, but he designed colorful motifs for those that were decorated. The Nymphenburg manufactory in Munich still produces his figurines in small series from time to time, using traditional methods and with great rigor. This figurine measures about 14 cm high and is in excellent condition, except for the tip of its index finger, which is missing. It bears the mark of a recessed rectangular shield.
