Description from the seller
Original, signed cycling jersey / cycling bodysuit (size 2, brand Bioracer) from Mario Aerts of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he finished eighth.
Mario became a professional cyclist in 1996. After two years and two victories (GP Isbergues and Circuit Franco-Belge), he changed teams to Lotto. Aerts proved to be a talent who was especially good on hilly terrain, and with a second place in the youth classification of the Tour de France in 1999, a bright future seemed to be ahead of him. After this, Aerts' development somewhat stalled, although he did achieve several notable placements. In 2002, he won the Walloon Arrow and finished second twice in stages of the Tour de France. He then moved to the German Team Deutsche Telekom for two seasons, where he mainly rode in support of others, such as Jan Ulrich. To give his own chances a bit more room, he returned to Lotto.
In 2007, Reed Aerts did not participate in the Giro (20th), the Tour (70th), or the Vuelta (28th). He was the 25th rider of all time to achieve this. In 2008, he earned an Olympic diploma thanks to his eighth place in the Olympic road race.
In the Tour de France 2010, Aerts experienced a second youth as a super-helper for his compatriot Jurgen Van den Broeck. He won the combativeness award in two stages and finished fifth in the tenth stage. After the season, he was named the best Belgian domestique in the peloton and was rewarded with the Kristallen Zweetdruppel, an award he had also won in 2008. In the peloton, Aerts was nicknamed Super Mario and Le Beau Mario.
2011 proved to be a difficult year for Aerts. His team expected him to replicate his performance from the previous year in the Tour, but heart rhythm disorders kept him out of competition. In October 2011, Aerts ended his career. From January 2012, he joined the management team of Lotto-Belisol.
This cycling jersey with symbols of the Olympic Games is not for sale in the store, but only available to the selected riders of the national team.
The signature has been obtained for the tour in Lille this year. Due to the busyness, no photo could be taken of the signing moment.
