AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Small Middle Paleolithic handaxe, Mousterian. Made of multicoloured jasper. This is a very nice example of the Mousterian occupation of the site.
The small site of Fontmaure is world-famous for its colorful base material from which tools were made. The site was inhabited as early as during the Acheulean, but was more intensively inhabited by Neanderthals during the Mousterian. Different phases of this habitation have been uncovered at this site, but unfortunately, a large part of the site was destroyed by early cultivation of the subsoil.
