A bit of history :
Winged horse and divine creature of Greek mythology, Pegasus caused a spring to gush forth with a kick of its hoof. Named Hippocrene, it is located on Mount Helicon in Greece. The nine muses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, goddess of memory, would come here to quench their thirst. Pierre Marie's narrative flair is explained by the line and composition. His drawing is an allegory of the emergence of an idea and tells this marvelous story. It features a radiant-winged Pegasus, muses dancing in a lively procession in a joyful and fantastical setting, as earthly as it is comic.
According to the Arfon edition dictionary of art squares, it is considered rare and sought after (last photo).
