MiLo’s ‘Minotaur’ embodies a sense of raw energy contained within structure — a silent struggle between instinct and control.Broad black gestures intersect with pale planes, creating a form that feels at once human and animal, sculptural yet in motion.

The composition seems to hold the memory of a figure — powerful, fractured, and restrained — emerging from layers of action and erasure.

The title refers to the myth, and to the archetype: the tension between consciousness and instinct, intellect and force.Within the work, this duality becomes physical — a field of movement, resistance, and transformation.

Executed with brushes and direct gestures, the surface reveals MiLo’s characteristic interplay of layering, reduction, and texture, capturing both immediacy and introspection.

About the artist

MiLo (1976) is an Amsterdam-based artist with a background in photography and art studies.
Over the years he has sold more than 800 original works, now residing in private collections, hotels, restaurants, and offices across Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

His practice spans from early Pollock-inspired action paintings to precise geometric compositions,
and to the layered, scratched surfaces he often explores today.

In his current work, MiLo investigates the tension between construction and erosion,
layering and scraping the painted surface until traces emerge.
These may recall urban structures, geological strata, or remnants of thought — yet the imagery is never fixed.
Each canvas evolves through process and chance, allowing multiple interpretations to surface beyond any single theme.

Each work forms part of an ongoing exploration of abstraction, memory, and transformation,
making MiLo one of the most prolific and recognizable contemporary artists on Catawiki.
