Description from the seller

Rare Amsterdam sea voyage publication from the 17th century, printed by Gillis Joosten Saeghman, the 'ordinary printer of the journals at sea.' Five different journals by Pieter van den Broeck contain lively and often dramatic accounts of Van den Broeck's journeys to Cabo Verde, Angola, Guinea, and especially the East Indies. The journals describe encounters with foreign coasts, trading posts, dangers at sea, shipwrecks, and transits, forming an early and important testimony of VOC expansion, African coast trade, and Indian adventures. A particularly scarce and historically valuable travel account from the Dutch Golden Age of seafaring.

Five different journals of Pieter van den Broeck, kept during his voyages to Cabo Verde, Angola, and Guinea, but mainly to East Indies, in which he describes both shipwrecks and passage voyages [...] - Amsterdam, Gillis Joosten Saeghman, in the new street, regular printer of the journals at sea, not dated but around 1660 - 19.5 x 15 cm

Some wear and tear, misses pages 11-24 and pages 83-112.
