Description from the seller
Contaminated Saint Paul the Hermit (1995)
Oil on canvas - 140 x 100 cm - Corrente of Metropolismo
This imposing work by Antonio Sciacca, dated 1995 and belonging to Metropolismo, is a powerful fusion between sacred iconography and contemporary culture.
The painting depicts Saint Paul the Hermit with dramatic realism: the saint is portrayed in spiritual ecstasy, with flowing beard and gaze directed towards the sky. The mystical atmosphere, heightened by the shadowy lighting, is immediately 'contaminated' by anachronistic elements, typical of Metropolismo.
Elements of Contamination
Rosario Blu: Instead of the traditional rosary, the saint holds a necklace of electric blue and shiny pearls, symbolizing a modern aesthetic and consumerism that bursts into the sacred.
Stylized drops: The upper part is dotted with deep blue drops with an almost plastic-like finish, a pop element that contrasts with the figurative scene.
On the left, the cross is faintly visible, while at the top right, the crow carrying bread appears—classic elements reinterpreted through a contemporary sensibility.
Sciacca uses his figurative mastery to explore how religious archetypes are filtered and reworked by metropolitan and media society. The work is a significant example of his Metropolista period.
The artwork, recognized and appreciated internationally, comes with an authentic signature by the master on a photograph with the master next to the piece, accompanied by a certificate of guarantee. It is offered with professional, tracked, and insured shipping.
