Description from the seller
Silent Geometry of the Port
Small on canvas but ambitious in construction, Alessio Variani's work opens like a suspended vision between reality and abstraction. A small urban port becomes the stage for a strict formal balance, where the architecture of the houses, pressed close together, forms a compact backdrop of colored volumes, marked by slanted roofs and tiny windows.
The facades, rendered in warm and pastel tones, converse with the water's surface through sharp and simplified reflections, almost crystallized.
The basin occupies the heart of the composition and is crossed by a surprising chromatic mosaic: the water is not a single mirror, but a patchwork of blue, green, and turquoise areas, arranged in geometric planes that guide the eye inward. The boats, light and silent, seem to float more on the color than on the water itself; arranged with a calibrated rhythm, they become graphic elements that reinforce the structure of the image.
On the right, the quay is tinged with bright yellows and ochres, creating a warm contrast with the freshness of the port and introducing human presence: small, barely outlined figures caught in everyday gestures, they do not disturb the quiet but make it more lively and measured. Everything is essential, free of the superfluous, yet full of atmosphere.
Variani constructs a contemplative scene where time seems slowed down and reality is filtered through a modern pictorial language, made of synthesis, balance, and chromatic harmony. A painting that invites you to pause, to follow the lines and colors, letting yourself be led to a port that is at the same time a real place and a mental space.
