Description from the seller
MiLo – “Black Blooms”
A work by Amsterdam-based artist MiLo (1976).
Black Blooms is an expressive abstract painting composed of clustered black forms rising vertically from a light, textured ground. While the composition loosely evokes botanical growth, it avoids literal depiction and instead focuses on rhythm, mass, and gesture.
The rounded, dense shapes are applied with force and variation, surrounded by splashes, drips, and scratched marks that introduce movement and spontaneity. These elements create a dynamic tension between structure and eruption, suggesting organic presence without defining it.
This work is painted on the reverse, non-gesso side of the canvas. The rougher surface and natural, slightly yellow tone of the raw fabric contribute to the warm background color and produce a distinctly matte finish, emphasizing materiality and physical presence.
Rather than illustrating flowers or landscape, the work operates in an ambiguous space between nature and abstraction, where associations emerge intuitively through process and material.
The painting will be rolled up and shipped in a sturdy tube or box and includes a signed certificate of authenticity.
