Description from the seller
François-Hubert Drouais (Paris, December 14, 1727 – there, October 21, 1775) was a French painter. He first apprenticed with his father, the miniaturist Hubert Drouais. Later, he became a pupil of Charles André van Loo, the court painter of King Louis XV, and a member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture. Drouais specialized in portraits, of women and especially of children. He often placed his subjects in a pastoral setting. He gained recognition at the French court and was the favorite painter of Madame du Barry.
This is a watercolor sketch for a Christmas performance, namely the birth of Christ.
The watercolor has a light vertical fold on the left side. Not distracting. It is mounted on a yellowed sheet, with the artist's signature at the bottom.
Is carefully packed and sent by registered mail.
