Description from the seller
Rare Ancient Book (1652) - Vulgate Biblical Concordances - Printed by Antoine Jullieron, Lyon
Concordance of the Sacred Books of the Vulgate Edition by Hugh Cardinal (Ugo di San Caro), Order of Preachers. Publisher: By the efforts of Antoine Jullieron. Place of printing: Lyon, France. Year: 1652 (M. DC. LII.). Language: Latin.
Historical and Bibliographical Description: For sale is a splendid 'seicentina' (sixteenth-century printed book), an important theological reference work. It is the Concordances of the Bible (Vulgate), originally compiled by Cardinal Ugo di San Caro in the 13th century and here presented in a refined, revised, and corrected edition.
The frontispiece is printed in red and black, a characteristic feature of high-quality editions of the period. At the center stands a large and beautiful engraved typographic mark, depicting an Uroboro (a serpent biting its tail) that encloses the motto "Quod tibi fieri non vis, alteri ne feceris" (Do not do to others what you do not want done to you), flanked by two lions.
The edition explicitly cites the revision ordered by Pope Sixtus V (by order of Pope Sixtus V, Supreme Pontiff) and the correction work carried out by Francesco Luca and the Parisian theologians.
Conditions of the Cover Page and Notes: From the visual analysis of the cover page:
Antique damaged letter with natural signs of aging.
Present old handwritten signatures of ownership in ink (e.g., 'L'abbé de Lisle') and a canceled note (struck through with ancient ink) on the right, which add charm and history to the specimen.
Reading flowering and browning scattered, typical of paper from three and a half centuries ago.
Technical details (to be completed by the seller):
Binding: [Insert here: e.g., full contemporary parchment, leather, half leather, detached, etc.]
Dimensions: [Insert measurements here in cm, e.g., 25 x 18 cm]
Pages: [Insert page numbers if numbered, or 'non numbered'].
Overall interior condition: [Describe whether there are woodworms, tears, or if the pages are clean]
