Description from the seller
Iron Sculpture – “Leda e il Cigno” by Aristide Ghiro
Striking figurative sculpture executed in iron, depicting the mythological subject Leda and the Swan (“Leda e il Cigno”). The composition presents a dynamic and expressive interpretation of the classical myth, rendered in a raw, modern sculptural language characteristic of forged metal art.
The figures are constructed from assembled iron elements with a heavily textured surface, emphasizing movement, tension, and emotional intensity. The sculptural treatment is intentionally rough and expressive, highlighting the material’s strength and organic qualities. The interaction between the human figure and the swan is suggested through abstracted forms rather than literal detail, giving the work a powerful symbolic presence.
The sculpture is mounted on a solid stone base, which adds considerable weight and stability to the piece and enhances its monumental character. Due to the materials used, the artwork is very heavy and robust.
A metal plaque on the base bears the artist’s name “Aristide Ghiro” and the title “Leda e il Cigno”, confirming the attribution.
Artist: Aristide Ghiro
Title: Leda e il Cigno
Material: Iron sculpture on stone base
Condition: Good overall condition; oxidation and surface wear consistent with age and iron material, contributing to the sculpture’s authentic patina
Signature/Inscription: Artist’s name and title present on the base
Period: 20th century (based on style and materials)
Weight: Very heavy
A compelling and dramatic sculptural work, ideal for collectors of modern metal sculpture, mythological themes, or expressive figurative art.
