Cerbaia's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is ruby red in color with light garnet hues. On the nose, the aromas evoke ripe red fruit, spices, and aromatic herbs, with hints of quinine, tobacco, and spices. On the palate, it is enveloping, with dense, firm tannins and a lingering finish, once again with balsamic notes. Fabio Pellegrini's winery was founded in 1979, and its first bottles hit the shelves in 1985. The winery's production philosophy is geared toward traditional labels, consistently representative of its terroir, and aged in large oak barrels. Production is limited to a total of 20,000 bottles annually, obtained from the 5 hectares of vineyards within the 12-hectare estate. The vineyards, surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, are cultivated on marly soils composed of schist clay, at an altitude between 350 and 400 meters above sea level, in the northern part of the appellation, overlooking Buonconvento. It is one of the many classic small-scale estates, historically the "core" of the Montalcino wine scene, which make this area unique. The product portfolio includes four labels, where Brunello and the other appellation wines naturally play a leading role.
