Description from the seller
Ribadeneira - Les Fleurs des vies des Saints - in folio 1668. Les Fleurs des vies des Saints, of the festivals throughout the year, following the usage of the reformulated Roman calendar. Collected by the Reverend Ribadeneira. Volume 1 and main. This edition is enriched with new saints' lives written by the Jesuit André Du Val and augmented with a large number of Lives of Saints and Holy Women, with the alphabetical table of saints' names, according to the months and days of the year. La Fleur de la vie des Saints (Flos sanctorum or the life of the saints) was first published in 1599 by the Spanish Jesuit Pedro de Ribadeneira and was translated into several languages. But it was in France that it met with the greatest success. René Gautier's translation was first printed in 1609 and reprinted many times with additions. Volume in folio 350x250, bound in full period leather, with tears and slight leather losses; the body of the work is solid and deserves restoration. Good condition of freshness, 940 pages, including a speech about the life of Saint Isabel of France, the only sister of King Louis, by Sébastien Rovillard. In Rouen, at the widow Behourt's, MDCLXVIII. [Attributes: First Edition]
