Description from the seller

Guy de Maupassant, Yvette, Paris, Victor-Havard publisher, 1885. Original edition of this short story, which has been adapted many times for the screen.

Signed autograph send from Maupassant to the press boss Paul Dalloz (1829-1887)

Yvette, a short story set in the world of courtesans, is a rewrite of the tale 'Yveline Samoris', published in 1882. The story first appeared as a collection of the same name in 1885. The heroine, a naive young girl, attempts to commit suicide when she realizes she risks becoming a demi-mondaine like her mother, the pseudo-marquise Obardi. Unlike Yveline (in the story Yveline Samoris), Yvette will survive and probably fall into the arms of the gambler Servigny, who had long coveted her.

Good overall condition. Binding and paper are solid. Covers not preserved.
