About the work

With 黒雪の鳥居 (Kokuyuki no Torii), I wanted to create a 'contemporary print': a winter landscape inspired by ukiyo-e, crossed by a pop culture icon (Dark Vader) integrated as if it were a print character.
The composition, snow in fine punctuation, atmospheric gradients, and the breathing of the sky are a direct homage to Utagawa Hiroshige: this way of making silence exist, then placing a presence within it that changes everything.
Here, Dark Vader stands before the torii like facing a threshold: motionless, solemn, almost spiritual. The contrast between the whiteness of the landscape and the black silhouette creates a calm tension, a sense of anticipation.

In the top right, the cartouches follow the tradition of prints:
