Description from the seller

DESCRIPTION: I present to you at auction the extraordinary work of 'The Costume of Great Britain' by William Henry Pyne, published in 1808, one of the most beautiful and sought-after illustrated works on British historical clothing.

We are faced with a spectacular book of great artistic and collectible value, famous for the quality and elegance of its illustrations. The volume contains 56 engraved and hand-colored plates, as well as its engraved cover, also hand-colored, making each copy a unique piece.

The plates depict with extraordinary detail the traditional, regional, and social costumes of Great Britain, showcasing trades, social classes, and scenes from everyday life at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. The hand coloring, done at the time, adds vibrancy and chromatic richness, making this work a true visual delight.

William Henry Pyne was one of the great British illustrators and writers of his time, and this work is considered a fundamental reference for the study of historical costume, British customs, and editorial illustration of the Georgian period. It is a highly sought-after book by collectors of antique prints, costume history, fashion, museography, and graphic art.

This is not an ordinary book; it is an ideal piece for a prestigious library or a specialized collection.

A work of great beauty, elegance, and rarity. Don't miss this marvel of 19th-century editorial art.
