Charles Henri Joseph Leickert
(Brussels, September 22, 1816 — Mainz, December 5, 1907)

The painting is beautifully handmade and framed.
Leickert was a Belgian painter, specializing in Dutch landscapes.
Leickert was born in Brussels, where his parents were connected to the court. His father, Henri Leickert, originally from Silesia, was in 1816 the 'Premier Valet de Chambre of His Majesty the King of the Netherlands,' and his mother, Henriette Martilly, was born in Berlin.
Charles Leickert studied drawing at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague and painting under Bartholomeus Johannes van Hove, Wijnand Nuijen, and Andreas Schelfhout.
He specialized in landscape painting, particularly winter landscapes, but is also known for his city and beach scenes. From 1841 to 1848, Leickert worked and lived in The Hague, and from 1849 to 1883 in Amsterdam. In 1856, he became a member of the Royal Academy in Amsterdam. At the age of seventy-one, he moved to Mainz, Germany, where he died in 1907.
