Antique scaldaletto dating to 1950–1960, made of copper and iron, from Italy, in good used condition, with a 15 cm diameter, 40 cm length and 10 cm height.
Description from the seller
Copper hot water bottle/heater with handle attachment. A testament to our past, perfect for enhancing a rustic environment.
Collectible objects
To enhance an environment, whether it is a farmhouse, house, villa, or historic setting.
This device, which certainly most young people today have never known, consisted of two semi-arches joined at a certain distance by triangular inserts at the end and spaced vertically in the center by thin side columns; it was also equipped with a quadrangular support, often covered with sheet metal, on which a metal or terracotta container with glowing embers was placed: usually appropriately sprinkled with ash to mitigate the heat, while ensuring that the bed was heated safely, with the blankets remaining raised.
It immediately came to mind that, in the dialect of Capracotta, this precious tool was called 'monaco': which often sparked a small debate with my grandmother Guglielma, who, coming from the Po Valley, knew it as 'preacher'; I also remembered that in some regions of Northern Italy, the small central brazier took on the strange name of 'nun'.
