Description from the seller
Ancient female portrait, late 19th – early 20th century, executed in oil with a confident and mature hand. The work belongs to the tradition of European bourgeois portraiture, created on private commission, as evidenced by the quality of execution and the presence of painted heraldic coats of arms on the left side, a rare element of strong collectible interest.
The face is the true center of the work: modeled with great sensitivity, natural complexion, soft volumes, and a direct yet composed gaze. No artificial idealization, but an authentic and dignified portrayal, typical of portraits meant to endure over time. The pearl necklace, discreet and elegant, enhances the sense of status without ostentation.
The palette is sober, balanced, with a neutral background that enhances the figure without distractions. The oil technique is solid, with well-controlled tonal passes, a sign of an experienced and confident artist.
The painting is in excellent conservation condition: stable painted surface, deep and intact colors. The original gilded frame, with authentic patina and natural signs of age on the back, adds historical value and confirms the period. Minimal cleaning, purely for conservation purposes.
An authentic work, not decorative, designed to represent a real person and a real story.
A unique, elegant, and credible piece, ideal for collectors, galleries, or high-end environments that demand presence, character, and authenticity.
