Piet Lippens

Piet Lippens is a somewhat lesser-known Belgian painter who was born in 1890 in Gentbrugge and died in 1981 in Ghent.

Their works are quite somber, with strong nuances: factories, slums, barracks, prisons, shipyards, mills, and caravans under a metal-gray sky, painted in generous strokes of bright paint.

His works appear monumental, powerful, and sometimes hallucinatory. Throughout his life, he remained faithful to the realistic-impressionist style he had learned to appreciate in the work of A. Baertsoen, although his work became more colorful and less somber in later years.

From the press: 'He has a pessimistic view of the world, yet at times not devoid of lyrical flashes. His affection goes to weathered facades, fallow grounds, and ghostly factories on the edge of the suburb.'

Work among others at the Museum in Ghent. Mentioned in CRICK, BAS I, and Two Centuries of Signatures by Belgian Artists. In the USA, he signed as 'Mac Kelly'. (PIRON) For your information:
