Pair of Vintage Bookends – Asian Scholar: Mathematician and Scribe

A pair of vintage decorative bookends depicting two seated Asian scholars: one holding a calculation tablet (mathematician) and the other holding a book or writing tablets (scribe). These figures are inspired by the traditional Chinese image of the scholar, symbolizing knowledge, wisdom, and learning.

Produced by Austin Productions around 1961, a well-known American manufacturer celebrated for its artistic and culturally inspired decorative objects of the mid-20th century.

The sculptures feature a dark green/bronze-style patina with finely detailed facial features, garments, and accessories. They can be used as functional bookends or displayed as standalone decorative sculptures.
