Rare and charming miniature (3.5 x 2.8 cm), containing Hégésippe Moreau's story 'La Souris Blanche,' illustrated with a portrait of the author as frontispiece and four lovely plates by Henri Pille.

Set in a full prune morocco binding, smooth spine decorated with the title in gilt lettering. Under a red cardboard slipcase, with a false gilt-paneled spine bearing the mention 'needles' in gilt letters. Covers preserved.
In very good condition, cover slightly faded and rubbed, paper slightly yellowed, free of foxing. Beautiful copy.

Pierre-Jacques Roulliot, known as 'Hégésippe Moreau,' was a French writer, poet, and journalist, born on April 8, 1810, in Paris, where he died on December 20, 1838.
Registered at the civil registry under the name of Pierre-Jacques Roulliot, he has carried his natural father's name since childhood and adopts the pseudonym Hégésippe when publishing his first verses in Paris in 1829. He also uses the pen name Alphonse Dardenne.
