Description from the seller

Rare licentious production license published by Gay in Brussels.
Paper copy from Holland featuring Chauvet's erotic frontispiece engraved in etching, printed on China in 6 states. Very likely a limited edition in a small number.

A posthumous collection of bold and light verse pieces, including about sixty tales. Its author was protected by Mme du Barry and pensioned by Louis XV, who housed him at the Château of Saint-Germain, where he died. Viollet-le-Duc placed these Tales immediately after those of La Fontaine.

Including, among others: La Girardière. The origin of the capuchin beards. The Pelotons. The origin of underwear. The two hermaphrodites. - The avenged corner. The midwife. The devil of women. One-armed spouses. etc., etc.

Good quality binding in half-red morocco, with raised bands on the spine, title and author stamped in gold. Top edge stained red. Covers preserved (without the spine).

Condition: Very good. Slight tear on one corner. Fresh interior. Untrimmed copy.

The very rare original was published in 1801.

Pierre Honoré Robbé de Beauveset (1714–1792), a French libertine poet, showed a keen penchant for satire and erotic poetry, and was described as a 'chantre of the filthy evil'.
