Description from the seller

Art edition of Maupassant's masterpiece illustrated with etchings drawn and engraved by Italian painter Gio Colucci (1892-1974): 15 hors-texte illustrations with serpentine borders (including the frontispiece), 3 headpieces, and 3 tailpieces.

Limited edition of 112 copies on Arches vellum. This one bears number 93. Our copy is enriched with an exclusive suite of 15 erotic drypoints (illustration not present in the work).

Pages, with an illustrated embossed cover featuring a engraving, and double casing with a green cloth back. In very good condition. A small tear on the cover (at the spine). Faded edges on the case. Interior impeccable.
Very beautiful specimen.

Closed due to First Communion: such a notice on the door of a brothel is not common, and the regulars at Maison Tellier in Fécamp are quite surprised. Meanwhile, Madame and her five residents will go to the countryside for a festival, where they will rediscover their youthful innocence and their youthful passions...

Gio Colucci was born in Florence in 1892. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris before moving to Africa prior to World War I. He then traveled to Egypt, where he pursued a career as an architect in Cairo; he is said to have built vacation homes there. After creating some paintings inspired by his stay in the Middle East, he turned to abstract painting and returned to France in 1917. From 1921, he exhibited his engravings in various salons: the Salon d'Automne, then the Salon des Surindépendants alongside Gleizes, Herbin, Robert Delaunay, among others. During this period, his work displayed a style close to expressionism, showing a singular energy and flirting with the fantastic. His palette was broad, with controlled choices. Highly involved with French publishers specializing in high bibliophile illustrated books, he produced a series of engravings for texts by Barbey d'Aurevilly, Pierre Loti, Guy de Maupassant, and Octave Mirbeau.
