Description from the seller

Original edition numbered in Hollande. One of 85 after the first 5 in Japan and before the 150 on pure Lafuma paper, it is numbered 20. The copy is enriched with a beautiful inscription from the author: [to Mr. G. Léon, very kindly. Gérard d'Houville].

Set in a luxurious binding signed by Marius Michel, in full Lavalier morocco, with a spine decorated with gold-lettered title and author, four fillets framing the pastedowns with the binder's name stamped at the bottom, gilded edges. Covers and spine preserved.

In excellent condition. Impeccable binding. Very rare and discreet pinpricks on the first pages, otherwise fresh and clean interior. A choice copy.

Novel published by Marie de Régnier, daughter of the poet José-Maria de Heredia, under the pseudonym Gérard d'Houville.

Gérard d'Houville (pseudonym of Marie de Régnier)
Too bad for you [1/85 number on Hollande]
Paris, Arthème Fayard & Cie, 1921
in-8 (19 x 13 cm); 251 pp.

Henri de Régnier's wife, sister-in-law of René Doumic and Gilbert de Voisins, signed her name as Gérard d'Houville, a name she inherited from one of her maternal ancestors. Her paternal lineage was Cuban, and it is known that she was one of the daughters of José Maria de Heredia. A poet like her father, she was also a remarkable novelist, author of L'Inconstante, Le Séducteur, Le Temps d'aimer, Tant pis pour toi, and the Roman des Quatre, which she co-wrote with Paul Bourget, Pierre Benoit, and Henri Duvernois.
