Description from the seller
Antique key-wound pocket watch – Solid silver – Cylinder with 8 jewels – 44 mm – 19th century
This antique pocket watch is an authentic horological piece from the 19th century, manufactured between 1850 and 1900. It features a key-wound mechanical movement, a traditional system widely used before the advent of crown-wound mechanisms.
The case, made of solid silver of high quality, is stamped, confirming the purity of the metal (see photos). Its diameter of 44 mm (excluding the crown) makes it a large watch for its time, a detail particularly appreciated by collectors.
The mechanism is a cylinder movement known as 'Cylindre Huit Rubis,' typical of 19th-century French and Swiss watchmaking. Winding and setting the time are done using the original key provided, through the openings located at the back of the case.
The open dial of the Lépine type, likely made of enamel or white porcelain, is decorated with Roman numerals for the hours and either index markers or Arabic numerals for the minutes and seconds, ensuring a clear and elegant reading.
Main features:
Antique pocket watch, open dial (Lépine style)
Second half of the 19th century (approximately 1850–1900)
• Movement: Cylinder mechanics with Eight Ruby Cylinder
Winding: With key (winding key included)
Material: solid silver with visible hallmarks.
Diameter: 44 mm (excluding the crown)
Dial: enamel / white porcelain, Roman numerals and minute markers.
State:
The watch is in excellent working condition and winds perfectly with its key. Aesthetically, it is very well preserved for an item approximately 150 years old. The case is intact, the engravings remain clearly visible, and the mechanism is complete.
The dial shows slight signs of normal wear related to age, with no cracks or apparent restorations. These marks are typical for a watch of this age and do not affect the readability or the charm of the piece.
Includes: pocket watch and winding key.
