Description from the seller

Luxury illustrated edition by the Art Deco style painter and decorator Robert Bonfils (1886-1972), featuring 59 stenciled color compositions.
Estimated edition in Carteret (IV,335)

Work by René Kieffer, published in 1919, limited to 560 copies, this one (No. 360) is one of 500 on velin of vats.

Volume established in a binding signed by Ad. Lavaux, executed in half brown morocco with corner protectors, spine with raised bands decorated with gold tools, gilded top.
Covers preserved (without the back)
Very slightly passed, tiny scratches on the crowns and upper corners. Impeccable interior. Very beautiful, untrimmed specimen.

We are attaching two handwritten and signed pages by Henri de Régnier. One contains the first stanza of one of his poems titled 'Sentence': 'The true wise man is the one who builds on sand, knowing that everything is vain in eternal time, and that even love is as fleeting as the breath of the wind and the color of the sky.'; on the second page, there appears to be a political reflection: 'Indicating as a remedy to the financial situation we are in, the opportunity and necessity of establishing an autonomous amortization fund for our domestic debt...'

Signed; Henri de Régnier / Robert Bonfils / René Kieffer
The Encounters of Mr. de Bréot. Novel. Illustrations by Robert Bonfils [with 2 L.A.S; binding by Lavaux; numbered copy on vellum]
Paris Editions René Kieffe 1919

Robert Bonfils, painter, engraver, and bookbinder, is one of the masters of the Art Deco style. A professor at the École Estienne from 1919 to 1951, he was recognized there as one of the 'illustrious.' His 1925 poster announcing the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts remains perceived as the iconic image symbolizing the scope of the Art Deco movement as an artistic phenomenon. In 1946, alongside Rose Adler, Jacques Anthoine-Legrain, Paul Bonet, Georges Cretté, and Henri Creuzevault, Robert Bonfils was one of the six founders of the Society of the Original Bookbinding.
