In 1869, the editor-in-chief of the New York Herald sent Henry Morton Stanley to Central Africa, with the mission of finding David Livingstone, who had gone in search of the source of the Nile and had been missing since 1866. It took him many months to locate the famous explorer. Departing from Zanzibar in January 1871, he reached the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania, where on November 10, 1871, he found Livingstone ill and short of supplies. This event is a classic in the history of exploration.
