Description from the seller
Genius and Supervisors
Artist: Maestro Walter Piacesi (Ascoli Piceno, 1929 – Fermignano, 2022)
Dating: 2012
Technique: Oil on panel
Measurements: 24 x 18 cm
Complete documentation of a unique work with signed authenticity by the Master and official archive.
"Genius and Supervisors" is a unique and significant work by Walter Piacesi from 2012, a powerful essay showcasing his inexhaustible vein of social satire and poetic narrative. Despite its modest size (24 x 18 cm), this tablet clearly demonstrates that the aesthetic value and conceptual weight of a work are not defined by its physical dimensions.
The work is created with oil on panel, a preferred technique that allows the artist to build a dense and textured pictorial surface. The application of color is energetic, with quick, loaded brushstrokes (impasto style) that give volume and immediacy to the characters. The colors are vivid, particularly the bright green of the background and the pastel yellow-pink of the sky, accentuating the grotesque and ironic atmosphere.
The painting fully falls within Piacesi's figurative-satirical genre. The scene juxtaposes disparate elements in a surreal manner.
Supervisors: anonymous figures, bourgeois, with expressions that are either astonished or amused.
The Genius (or the Artist/Politician): the dominant figure is the imposing one with the head of an ass (a traditional symbol of ignorance or stubbornness), dressed in formal clothes and a green tie, who holds the scene.
A semi-naked female figure, posed like a pin-up or advertising poster, against a vivid green background, serving as an object of discussion, observation, or exchange.
The juxtaposition of formal seriousness, grotesque irony of the asinine figure, and the element of sensual distraction creates a sharp critique of the world of politics, art, or contemporary society, where appearance and superficiality often mask the true debate.
The artwork, dating from a period of full artistic maturity (2012), is precisely documented: it comes with a Master’s Authenticity Certificate and is correctly archived in the Ca' Spinello Art Studio. These features make it a piece of definite collector's interest, a testament to the genius and irony that characterized Walter Piacesi's production.
