Description from the seller
French Neo-Romanesque Vermeil Silver Chalice with Paten – 19th Century
Elegant French neo-Romanesque chalice in vermeil silver, accompanied by its matching paten, dating to the late 19th century. The set is hallmarked with the French Minerva head, first title (950/1000 silver), confirming high-grade silver.
Total weight (chalice + paten): 745 grams
Height of chalice: 17 cm
The chalice features a richly sculpted openworked stem node decorated with the Four Symbols of the Evangelists: the Angel, Lion, Ox, and Eagle, each finely modeled in relief and framed by Romanesque interlacing motifs.
The foot is engraved with a continuous decorative frieze and bears a raised Latin cross set with a faceted crystal, a symbolic and luminous focal point. The cup interior is fully gilded, suitable for liturgical use.
The accompanying paten, also in vermeil silver, is sober and elegant, designed to harmonize perfectly with the chalice and to respect liturgical tradition.
Condition: Very good overall condition. No losses, breaks, or repairs. Light wear to the gilding consistent with age and devotional use.
A refined and theologically rich liturgical set, ideal for collectors of ecclesiastical silver or religious art.
Professionally packed and shipped with great care.
