Victor Bauffe - Belgium 1849 - 1921 The Hague
Born in 1849 in Bergen (Mons), painter Victor Bauffe was a true Hague School artist, who studied at the Hague Academy of Art. He worked almost entirely in the style of his friend and mentor J.H. Weissenbruch (father and teacher of W.J. Weissenbruch), with whom he often went into the polder to find beautiful spots, which he captured in watercolor and oil paint. His better watercolors are sometimes so similar to those of Weissenbruch that, without the signature, the difference is hard to see. Victor Bauffe died in 1921 in The Hague. Bauffe was especially skilled at depicting impressive sky scenes in stunning color variations that accurately reflect the mood of the weather.
