Magnificent and imposing wooden chest from Rajasthan, India.
Made of exotic wood and covered with ironwork.
The top opens on the last quarter thanks to two hinges, revealing a large storage space.
The façade is entirely covered with stamped metal sheets decorated with a grid pattern and adorned with rosettes.
The two sides, the back, and the cover are covered with iron bands with rounded shapes.
The chest rests on four wooden wheels; it is also equipped with two wrought iron side handles.
The closure is secured by a moraillon and a chiseled iron loop.
This superb chest dates from the late 19th century / early 20th century and originates from the Rajasthan region in northwestern India. The top is more recent (circa 1970), as are some repairs around the wheels.
This type of chest was often offered by the family as a dowry for a wedding.
Handcrafted, this chest has some imperfections due to manual work.
Waxed finish, note signs of wear due to use and age. Inscription on the front edge of the tray.
Ideal for enhancing an interior or using as a coffee table.
Considering the size of the object, it must be removed and cannot be sent.
