Description from the seller
AMA • Pope (1985) – 'Bat-cension' – 1/20
In response to your ever-increasing demand, artist Pope from the AMA collective (with over 1,200 successful sales and more than 230 100% positive reviews on Catawiki – gallery track record) is also opening this account to share his creations.
Authenticity, quality, and exceptional service that make its reputation await you.
Discover 'Bat-cension,' a powerful and transgressive Pop Art work, where the ultimate icon of the modern vigilante replaces the Christ figure in a radical and contemporary reinterpretation of the crucifix.
In this new limited series of only 20 copies for 2025, Pope depicts Batman, arms open, frozen in an elevation posture.
The hero becomes a martyr.
The cross becomes a base.
Pop mythology accesses an almost religious dimension.
The title 'Bat-cension' merges Batman and Ascension: it evokes both the fall, sacrifice, and ultimate elevation. A symbolic ascent, between shadow and light, between geek culture and sacred iconography.
Entirely handcrafted in epoxy resin, the artwork stands out with its bright yellow, saturated with organic shapes and black projections, creating a stark contrast with the dark silhouette of the hero. A vibrant, almost living material that immediately captures the eye.
The work can be placed or hung, thanks to its integrated hook at the back.
The LEGO character visible in some photos is not included in the sale.
Bid now to add to your collection one of the most powerful, bold, and iconic Pop Art works from the AMA universe, at the crossroads of the sacred, cinema, and geek culture.
Dated, signed, numbered, delivered with AMA certificate of authenticity.
Fast and careful shipping (silk paper, enhanced protection, rigid box), with signature upon delivery.
Who is AMA?
Born from the fusion of talents of French artist friends, the AMA collective takes you into its universe blending vibrant colors and diverse materials.
Sculptures, paintings, and installations, the collective passionately employs a multitude of techniques to bring its works to life.
The AMA collective mainly draws its inspiration from the world around it, but also through currents of renowned artists such as Banksy, Keith Haring, Koons, Orlinski, Takashi, Fred Allart, Shepard Fairey, Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Richard Hamilton, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Alec Monopoly, KAWS, Pantone, Mr. Brainwash, Blek le Rat, to name just a few.
Whether for a gift, a keepsake, or your personal collection of contemporary art, you will easily find your favorite piece thanks to the diversity of our works. Indeed, AMA pursues its passion for urban art through street art and pop art creations (limited edition or not), covering a wide range of themes such as cryptocurrencies (bitcoin, ethereum), the dollar, money, gold, wealth, the sex industry, drug abuse, luxury and haute couture brands, the world of comics and video games, the pharmaceutical industry and medications, recycling and upcycling, as well as products from the agro-food and fashion industries (sports, sneakers...).
Brands guide our choices and often our lives without us realizing it. Aware of this impact, AMA likes to playfully reinterpret labels such as Louis Vuitton (LV), Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Prada, Gucci, Rolex, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), Supreme, Obey, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, AMG, Mercedes, Nike (Air Jordan), Adidas (Stan Smith), Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Marvel and Avengers (Batman, Joker, Superman...), Disney (Mickey, Scrooge...), Nintendo, Sega, Tintin, Lego, Pokemon, Vans, and many others.
Dear bidders, our team is making every effort to ensure that all the necessary information for evaluating the lot being sold is clearly detailed in the listing: dimensions, weight, description, and photos... After the sale, no unjustified claims will be accepted. Thank you for your understanding.
