Iron METEORITE NANTAN (China, 1516) is a slice meteorite with a Widmanstätten pattern from Nantán, Guangxi, China.
Description from the seller
The fall of the Nantan meteorite was observed in 1516, although the pieces we can see today were recovered starting in 1958, when they wanted to melt them to use in the growing industrialization of the Asian country.
The meteorite exploded during its passage through the atmosphere, and the fragments were scattered across a field 28 kilometers long and 8 kilometers wide near the city of Nantan, Guangxi (China).
The Nantan meteorite is classified as IAB-MG in 2006. Most of the fragments show strong signs of weathering, due to the long time taken to recover them. The meteoric iron has a nickel concentration of 6.96%.
We are auctioning a magnificent specimen of this meteorite, essential for any collection, with size and quality suitable for a good collection, featuring spectacularly visible Widmanstätten lines that are very well defined.
A fantastic specimen, and one of the few that will go on sale. Don't miss this opportunity!
