Description from the seller

A rare edition of the Civil Code containing all the laws. Promulgated by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804, the Civil Code brings together the legal principles governing civil life, including family, property, contracts, successions and more. This book is a cultural and legal treasure, reflecting the legislative work of the First Consul and its lasting influence on French society and the wider world. It laid the legal foundations that have shaped modern France.

Napoleon himself wrote: “My true glory is not in having won forty battles, for nothing will erase them; what will live forever is my Civil Code.”

This book contains more than 768 pages in total, with an analytical index and a commentary. It includes over 2,000 laws. A previous owner has written some notes at the beginning (as shown in the photos). Internally it remains in good condition for its age. A fine and rare piece to add to any collection.
