This kabu-shaped incense burner is a refined example of Nabeshima ware, a prestigious ceramic tradition developed under the patronage of the Nabeshima clan of Saga during the Edo period.
Incense burners were produced as high-ranking decorative objects for feudal lords and noble households, demanding flawless workmanship and refined aesthetics.
This piece features a clear and tranquil celadon glaze, one of the most celebrated characteristics of Nabeshima ceramics.
