Description from the seller
Magnificent poster by Sebastião Salgado of a photograph from his work 'Amazonia'.
This poster shows a stream carving the rocky bed in the Imeri Mountains, in the Amazonas state, northwest Brazil. Sebastião Salgado took this photo during his more than 7-year project for the collection Amazonas. The poster is printed on high-quality paper and features Salgado's name (embossed) and the title Amazonas.
Sebastião Salgado (Aimorés, Minas Gerais, Brazil, February 8, 1944) is a Brazilian sociodocumentary photographer and photojournalist. Salgado has traveled to over 100 countries for his photographic projects. Most of these have appeared in numerous publications and books. Traveling exhibitions of his work have been shown worldwide. Gallerist Hal Gould considers Salgado the best photographer of the early 21st century.[citation needed] He has received numerous international awards, including the 1998 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts and the 1982 W. Eugene Smith Award for Humanitarian Photography.
Sebastião Salgado's images are not taken hastily or impulsively. He needs time to build both the story of an image and the discourse of a series, which can take him several years. His work is cooked slowly, without rush, with knowledge and dedication.
The work of this master of photography cannot be labeled with just two or three words, such as photojournalist or social photographer. It is so vast and with such an intense discourse that those labels fall very short.
In his work, there are economic, human, social, anthropological, denunciatory, painful, and above all, incredibly, beautiful and artistic elements where one could never imagine that someone would be capable of capturing them.
One of the most influential photographers of the 20th century, alongside other photographers of his time such as Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edward Weston, Robert Capa, Elliott Erwitt, Walter Evans, Philippe Halsman, Diane Arbus, Eve Arnold, Robert Doisneau, Herb Ritts, Josef Sudek, Robert Mapplethorpe, Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, Steve McCurry, among many others.
