AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A massive Chinese 'Rose Medallion' platter (charger / large dish). China, Qing dynasty, mid to late 19th century. Most probably late Xianfeng (1850-1861, 咸豐) or early Tongzhi period, considering quality and style of decoration. Uncommon example, particularly in such big size!

Finely potted in conical shape, supported on a short foot. Interior decorated in vivid enamels with a centered medallion depicting a peacock perching on a prunus branch, two butterflies, peonies and other flowers within a wide gilt band. The medallion followed by four large panels depicting interior and terrace palace scenes. Panels surrounded by flowers and butterflies, dense greens scrolls on richly gilt ground. Edge gilded.

UV- and daylight pictures included.

Dimensions: diameter - 38 cm; height - 5,7 cm. Weight - 2081 g.

Provenance: private collection, Stockholm, Sweden.

Conditions report: very good condition, an old restoration: small chip (fortunately on back) with associated hardly visible hairline. Painted decor and gilding in excellent condition, with minimal wear. Minor firing faults. Strong white light tested. Check pictures for details.
