Description from the seller

Japanese vintage neck-through bass (Matsumoku, circa 1974–1978)

A high-quality Japanese vintage E-bass from the mid-1970s is for sale, manufactured in the legendary Matsumoku Factory (Japan).

Description

The bass features a through-neck (neck-through-body) construction with multi-layered build, a very sturdy neck, and a natural/walnut finish.
It is significantly heavy (> 4.5 kg) and offers considerable sustain and a powerful, warm vintage tone.

The bass is equipped with two split-coil pickups (P-Bass style), passive electronics (volume / tone), and original Japanese wiring with B500 potentiometers. The wiring is unrestored and original.

state

Good age-appropriate condition with typical signs of play and use of an instrument over 45 years old.
No structural damages, neck straight, playable.
Originality was deliberately preserved (no modernizations).

classification

The bass comes from Matsumoku production, as it was made for, among others, Aria, Electra, Westone, and Univox.
Since the headplate decal is missing, an exact brand designation is no longer possible — however, the manufacturing and construction are clearly Matsumoku.

Very powerful, centered vintage sound with a lot of sustain. Ideal for:

Funk / Soul (70s)

early metal sounds
