Description from the seller
This is a wonderful photograph taken in China in 1963, depicting a group of young women practicing marching with rifles on their shoulders. It is a truly distinctive and very typical image of those years, when Mao Zedong launched the famous 'Socialist Education Movement' in China—a major 'crusade' of political, cultural, bureaucratic, and even ethnic 'purification,' a precursor to the subsequent 'Cultural Revolution' of 1966.
This photograph was probably taken by a professional photographer from the famous Dufoto by Aldo Durazzi. In fact, the negative measures as much as 18x24cm, even slightly larger than the corresponding print, which was therefore reproduced as a contact print.
The photograph bears the Dufoto stamp as well as that of the London Express, and it is guaranteed to be 100% original vintage and contemporary with the attached negative.
