Description from the seller

DESCRIPTION: I present to you a beautiful book, in luxury binding in Moroccan leather, of 'LES PHILIPPIQUES DE CICERON' ('The Philippics of Cicero'), a work by the legendary Roman politician and writer Marco Tulio Cicerón (106 BC - 43 BC), the greatest of Roman orators.

Our copy contains the 14 Philippics, that is, the complete work.

Cicero's Philippics are a series of 14 political speeches delivered by the Roman orator Marcus Tullius Cicero in the Roman Senate (SPQR) in 44–43 BC, after the assassination of Julius Caesar. In these speeches, Cicero defends the Roman Republic and accuses Marcus Antonius, the famous Roman general lover of Cleopatra, of seeking to become a tyrant.

They have a very critical and aggressive tone, and they are a prime example of Latin oratory.

Cicero wrote the Philippics knowing they could cost him his life. They are not comfortable texts. They are sharp cries in favor of freedom, written when telling the truth was dangerous. Each page is charged with that tension. Historically, the Philippics had serious consequences: the hostility with Mark Antony contributed to Cicero's execution in 43 BC.

Cicero's speeches are the epitome of eloquence and have been studied since Roman times by all those interested in speaking well. They are, therefore, a must-read for the cultured man, helping us improve our communication skills.

Climbing this luxurious volume is not a whim; it is an act of love for the word, for history, for intellectual bravery; it is choosing what endures over what is forgotten.

Don't buy this book because it's beautiful, luxurious, and old: win it because it still speaks. Don't let it slip away.
