Description from the seller
Votive crown for statue – Chased and repoussé silver – 19th century – Italy
Silver votive crown (tested), probably intended to adorn a statue of the Virgin or a saint.
Pierced and repoussed work, characterized by a dense decoration of radiating floral motifs topped with almonds and small baroque scrolls.
The circular belt is adorned with a frieze featuring relief-detailed diamonds and vertical stripes, typical of religious goldsmithery from the second half of the 19th century.
Entirely handcrafted structure: cut floral elements, fine repoussé work, assembled with tin or silver solder (the small visible irregularities confirm this).
Old patina not cleaned, consistent; slight minor deformations on a few fleurs-de-lis, normal for a mobile liturgical piece.
Usage and typology
Votive crown or statue crown, intended for a set of domestic devotion or an altar niche. Size suitable for a statue approximately 30–45 cm.
