Masayuki Uraguchi was born in 1964 in Suginami Ward, Tokyo. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1987 and completed his graduate studies under the tutelage of Kohei Miura in 1989. Uraguchi established his first kiln in Haga-machi, Tochigi Prefecture in 1991, later relocating his studio to Ishioka City, Ibaraki Prefecture in 2001.

In 1990, he received the Excellence Award at the International Ceramic Exhibition, and in 2002, he won the Special Prize at the Ibaraki Prefectural Art Festival Exhibition.
