Description from the seller
九代大樋長左衛門 Ohi Chozaemon Ⅸ (1901-1986)
Born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. In 1934, he succeeded as the ninth-generation master of the Ōhi-yaki Honke kiln. He was regarded as a master craftsman rivalling the fifth-generation Kanbee, the founder of the kiln's revival. Full member of the Japan Craft Association. He received the name Tōdo-sai from the fifteenth-generation head of the Urasenke school, Sōshitsu.
A refined tea bowl crafted in the tradition of Ohi ware (Ōhi-yaki), featuring a bold red line motif over a warm beige glaze. The piece reflects the subtle asymmetry and tactile charm characteristic of the Ohi kiln, known for its close ties to the Urasenke tea school. Made by the ninth-generation master Ohi Chozaemon IX, the bowl bears his signature aesthetic—organic form, understated elegance, and a deep understanding of tea ceremony culture. It comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako), confirming authenticity and lineage. An excellent example of modern Ohi ware, ideal for collectors of Japanese ceramics and tea culture.
