Description from the seller
Sem Benelli - The Loving Tragedy - Autographed by the author - Ed. Treves - 1925.
Dramatic poem in three acts written by the author of the theatrical text 'La cena delle beffe'. A tragedy set in Medicean Florence during Lorenzo the Magnificent, which achieved a sensational success and was nonetheless significant enough to cement his name in the history of literature. From this tragedy, the renowned film of the same name was adapted in 1941 by director Alessandro Blasetti, starring Amedeo Nazzari and Clara Calamai.
Sem Benelli was born in Filettole and died in Zoagli on December 18, 1949. He was an Italian poet, writer, and playwright, author of texts for the theater and screenplays for cinema. He was also an opera librettist.
He has often been considered by critics as a lesser D'Annunzio ('the discarded shoe of D'Annunzioism' was even somewhat unfairly described by Giovanni Papini), but his literary talent has been re-evaluated to be considered as one of the major expressions of modern tragedy.
The book is in good condition, with all pages legible and firmly attached to the spine. Ownership signature on the seventh page and, on the third page, the author's signature issued in Rome on April 29, 1925. The item for sale is the one visible in the photos, and it will be shipped via trackable method.
